History And Benefits Of Yoga

The word ‘Yoga’ is said to be first found in written and old sacred texts such as the Rig Veda. Primarily, yoga was practiced to have control over the body's senses, build spiritual harmony, and increase enlightenment. Yoga can be traced to as far back as the pre-Vedic Indian traditions around 3000BCE. 

Gradually it was thought and spread to the western public as a way to achieve inner peace and a holistic healthy lifestyle. The first yoga teacher to disseminate yoga to a western audience was Swami Vivekananda who later spread it to the United States and Europe. Around the 1920s Modern Yoga Renaissance began and started the spread of a dramatically evolving yoga practice.

Right now, there are essentially about 13 types of yoga, arguably they are all similar with each having its own forte and perks. They are; Vinyasa Yoga, Iyengar Yoga, Hot or Bikram yoga, Hatha yoga, Kundalini Yoga, Prenatal Yoga, Couples Yoga, Aerial Yoga, Katonah Yoga, Ashtanga Yoga, Yin Yoga, Restorative Yoga, Vinyasa Yoga
